In Cold Blood
It took me a while and now I’m slightly behind in my 50 book challenge but I’ve finished In Cold Blood by Truman Capote.

Since the last post I finished reading Less Than Zero and its 2010 sequel, Imperial Bedrooms. Both are classic Bret Easton Ellis; funny, contemporary and more than a bit dark!

I finished The End of the Affair by Graham Greene. What a wonderful read it was, I really hope I can get more Greene to read, I can’t believe I haven’t read any before. I’m about halfway through Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis. I recently bought his new book, Imperial Bedrooms, before realising it’s a sequel to Less Than Zero so downloaded it on my kindle. I love BEE,...

I’ve gotten off to a flying start with my challenge, having read The Quiet American by Graham Greene in a day. I couldn’t help it. I have a week off and once I started it, I was enjoying it so much to stop!

Teachers make too much money! →
world-shaker: Are you sick of high paid teachers? Teachers’ hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they only work 9 or 10 months a year! It’s time we put things in perspective and pay them for what they do - baby sit! We can get that for less than minimum wage. That’s right. Let’s give them $3.00 an hour and only the hours they worked; not any of that silly planning time, or any time they...

No Surprises →
Interesting article on whether we should be really that surprised that auto-tune was used in the recent X-Factor auditions. I wasn’t watching but saw the clip later. As someone who has been involved in music production, it was achingly obvious and truly disgraceful. What worries me more is those who didn’t notice.  Did the team honestly think they could get away with using auto-tune?...

How to use i.e. in a sentence.  →
I’m certainly no grammar nazi, but it irks me when people use ‘i.e.’ when they clearly mean ‘e.g’.  This is delightful.

Jose Antonio Abreu talks about El Sistema in a touching TED talk. The result of this is the incredible Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra which have a worldwide reputation for excellence and exuberance. Not forgetting the full of life conductor, Gustavo Dudamel. I’m not sure how El Sistema could be introduced to other countries and cultures. But that’s for another post.
